Montana’s oldest and largest engineering firm is ready for a new home in Bozeman. Morrison-Maierle – which is marking 40 years in Bozeman this year – employs some 90 people locally and currently occupies three buildings in the Advanced Technology Park. That’s two too many, in the view of Jack Schunke, Morrison-Maierle’s Bozeman office manager and vice president.

“We have outgrown all available space,” Schunke said in a press release announcing details on the firm’s new, approximately 40,000-square-foot office location. “We are excited about our new facility and being able to have our entire staff under one roof.” The building has been planned to accommodate as much as 50 percent growth within the Bozeman office.

Morrison-Maierle’s new space is being built following specifications set forth by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program. Some of the “green” features include paint and carpeting certified as low-emitted volatile organic compound (VOC) materials, which improve indoor air quality, a green roof with a grass patio, and an on site well. As a result of these and other features, the building will be certified as a “green” facility.

The new building broke ground in January 2007 and will be located within the Bozeman Gateway subdivision. The Gateway subdivision – a 750,000-square-foot complex of shops, restaurants, offices, and condos – is located on West Main Street across from the Gallatin Valley Mall. Designed by ThinkOne architecture group, the building is being constructed by Montana-based Dick Anderson Construction. Completion is expected in April 2008.

Founded in 1945, Morrison-Maierle, Inc., also has offices in Montana in Helena, Billings, Missoula, Kalispell and Great Falls, as well as in Utah and Arizona. The consulting engineering firm is listed as a “Top 500 Engineering Design Firm,” according to its Web site.
